In the mail!

Wahoo! Who here loves crafting and has a monstrous supply of "things" that can be used to create wonderful things? I know I do. I have so much that it drives my husband crazy. I probably have too many "things" because the girls sometimes don't know what to choose.

Today in the mail I got more! Tee hee.

Thanks to Quirky Momma for hosting the Elmers giveaway. I got this in the mail...
After lunch we broke out all the colors and got to work. I was even willing to share the pens with the girls but none of them decided they wanted to try them. The giant markers were the items that caught their eyes.

My circus had a blast coloring random things. We are still in the process of building the ultimate fairy houses. If only I could get them to focus for long enough to put things together. *sigh* Oh well, we sure do have fun creating though.

Thanks Elmers for the great box of goodies.

My Anniversary Present

The hubby was a little upset that he paid for extra shipping and that it didn't get here in time for our anniversary. It arrived on my doorstep yesterday and I waited until my hubby got home from work yesterday. He handed it to me with a smile and said, "Happy Anniversary honey."

I read the return address label...I guess that ruined the surprise...but I was so excited I could barely get the box open then. He really does listen when I tell him about the cool things that I find.

I've kept you in suspense long enough.

The package was from Diamond Candles. http://www.diamondcandles.com/
Soy candles with a ring inside. He got me the Apple Slice. A beautiful green and the most delicious smell ever. I'm drooling just thinking about how it smelled.

The hubby let me light it right away last night too. He's not all that excited about candles. He feels that they remove the oxygen from the air and some of the smells are too overwhelming for him. These facts make it even more exciting that he got me this candle for our anniversary.

I burned it last night for a few hours and again this morning. It was during this morning's burn that I saw a piece of foil in the melted wax. My ring!! I pulled it out with a fork and let it cool.

Pulled the foil off and removed it from it's plastic bag. Beautiful. It's my sister's birthstone. Hmmm...pondering if I should keep it (since it was my present) or give it to her because she's been looking for a stone like this.

Either way...here's the pic...wish you could smell it.
Find them on Facebook as well at  http://www.facebook.com/diamondcandles?sk=info

And for fun we made color changing pudding pops last night so we could eat them this morning. Tiniest had to  eat hers sitting on the counter top.

The Best Worst Thing - A Book Review

Article first published as Book Review: The Best Worst Thing: A Memoir by Kristen K. Brown on Blogcritics.

I have to thank BlogCritics for connecting me to this awesome book. The list of women that I know that need to read this book gets bigger every time I think about the book. I devoured this book it was so good. Then I would tell myself to slow down and think about that amazing thing she just said that was so simple. And so as not to get too ahead of myself...let me get to the book.
From the back cover:
As a wife, new mother, and successful career woman, Kristen Brown thinks her life is set. Until one morning, her husband doesn't wake up.

Just that sentence screamed at me that I needed to read this book. My story is no where near her story but I knew I would be able to embrace all that she had to say. There were many nights that I set the book down because reading anymore would have caused me to cry abundantly. My husband worked in Florida for two years; we live in Wisconsin. He left on this new job two months after welcoming our third daughter into our lives. I would fear for a plane crash or something equally as bad happening to him while he was on the road leaving me with these three little girls looking to me for everything.

Kristen had to live with the reality of it. Being with her husband one night and the next morning finding that he had passed in the night. She got struck with the reality that not everything turns out as you plan in life and that everything happens to make you a better and stronger person. But I'm getting ahead of myself again.

I loved reading her book. Most of the chapters are bite sized for those women who only have a few minutes at a time to devour the information that they need to continue on with their lives. Some of her topics seemed completely random (which I love because that's how I write) until she walked you through it and then you could see that it fit perfectly in her story at that point and you could understand that moment.

Kristen gave you the total picture of her life. You got the bare bones of her thoughts: the good and the bad. The challenges of being a mom, especially a single mom. How we women sometimes tend to focus on the proper and necessary raising of our children and sometimes forget about our own health and well-being. Which reminded me of a quote from Jim Rohn, "You take care of you for me and I'll take care of me for you."

I really enjoyed reading about her spiritual search and how she went at it as a professor more than searching for something that would make her feel better. Kristen read the history of the religions of our world and discovered that she doesn't fit into a religion but she has a very strong faith. She loved finding out that Jesus was a real man rather than a mythical figure (especially seeing that she was raised Lutheran). Kristen realized that there is more out there than the typical person likes to talk about. That we are all connected through all time. God doesn't see time, only we as humans need time.

I wanted to give Kristen a high-five (as cheesy as that sounds) when she started telling about her "gifted" daughter who always amazes her about how much she truly knows. She mentioned that it might have something to do with being left-handed and that making people more creative or intelligent. My youngest is a lefty and she astounds me daily by how much she knows, how much she is capable of, and how well she can dissect an idea or an item just to see how it all works. Loved it because I now know that I am not alone with my tiny girl and all of the challenges she puts me through.

If you need a wake up call to your life and what you may think about other moms and their issues in life, you need to read this book. I am looking at the women around me in a different light. I am looking at my husband in a different light.

What I found in my mailbox.

Upon returning from an impromptu vacation...which I should share about because it was tons of fun...I found some great surprises in my mailbox. Yes, still in my mailbox because for some reason, the hubby forgot to check the mail for 4 days. May need to apologize to my mail lady tomorrow for this.

There were 3 magazines and two sample packs and two packages.

Package one was...
A Company Kids Zoo Pals Explorer Lunch Bag. And now I need to buy 2 more (at least) because the girls all want this one. Good thing that they are on clearance right now.

And then I caught the FedEx man dropping off...

Two tickets to see Natasha Bedingfield live in Milwaukee next month. Just in time for my hubby and my anniversary. It will be a super busy weekend. Family reunion, Fish Day, and the concert.

Very exciting going to the mailbox lately. Wonder what else will show up.

In the mail!

So much good stuff coming in the mail lately.
Two of my favorite things recently.
On the left cup cozys from A Little Xtra Something. Spied them on Etsy and then again on Facebook and after some conversations she surprised me with the Marine pattern. It was mine. And the blue paisley came with incase the hubby grabbed the Marine one for himself. I love them! I pulled them out of the beautifully packaged envelope and wanted to snuggle with them.

Placed it on my travel mug, which doesn't need it on but...I like the feel of it as I pick up my cup. It adds to the warm coffee cup feel.

Then I got my latest Booksneeze book. Daddy Date. I love it! Over halfway through and just want to make this family my friends. Good stuff and some of it has been that info that you obviously need because you hear it in many places in relatively short periods of time. I'm sure I'll be done with it by the weekend as well. So I'll have all sorts of good stuff to share this weekend.

Also got my first book as a Blog Critic. Cannot wait to get started on this one. A stuntman who has studied to become a Reverand.

Good things in the mail to help me indulge in a few of my favorite things. Now if my latest bead shipment would appear on my front porch.
